The Choice Is Ours
Consider, if we will, a new reality whose edges have become increasingly blurred. The boundaries separating what once we could have only imagined from this new reality are now bleeding seamlessly into our world.
In this reality we are observers who have surrendered to becoming the observed in an endless loop playing out on tiny screens we hold in the palms of our hands.
In this reality the mundane often gives way to unfeeling cruelty and horror, while tinny carnival noises in the background distract us with false promises of celebrity.
Recognition is a new short film that goads viewers to consider with due unease the modern-day marriage of social media and assault weapons – and our all-too-easy access to both. Recognition sounds an alarm bell and raises a clarion call but stops short of despair.
For main character Charlie, human agency remains within reach. His every person’s struggle channels a discourse, a recognition, if we will, that may be the best hope for our own sustainability.
Bruised and battered but not defeated, Charlie clings to the haunting flute melody that persists as a counterpoint to the carnival din. Those somber notes suggest that yes – the new reality that we increasingly inhabit may soon become our new normal to boot.
But in Recognition we see that the choice is ours.
Time Will Never Tell is a story of Joe and his journey through time. He finds love and danger. Joe is a kind man who wants to find his way home while others want to use time travel for profit and will hurt those who get in their way. While Joe is captured, he is forced to a life of crime. He finds love in his struggle to survive.
